Finally we’re on our way! We left family – see waving goodbye image –in New Jersey on Thursday 9/5 from the Newark airport, flying SAS to Stockholm, Sweden, then another SAS flight to Paris France. We decided to spend the evening of 9/6 in Paris rather than rushing for the train to Bayonne, and probably missing it. .
So we spent a Friday evening in the Montparnasse area, near the train station. After walking around to get the lay of the land, we chose a small table at one of so many outdoor cafes, asked for our wine (Sara) and beer (Evan) and thus became like typical Parisians. Many people milling around or sitting for a drink at sidewalk cafes and restaurants, enjoying the evening, watching the traffic – cars, scooters, even skateboards. People-watching is a favorite Parisian diversion, especially on a busy Friday evening. But it was past six o’clock, and we saw that among the many sidewalk venues no one was eating a meal yet. But we were hungry. We asked about ordering a meal, but the chef had not even arrived yet. And thus we learned about meal times in Paris. After drinks, we walked around some more, and then about 7:30 wound up in a café called “Pinocchio’s.” It was a late dinner, then back to the hotel to sleep and prepare for a train to Bayonne tomorrow.
