  — 2023 —

Austria: Salzburg and Vienna

Italy: Rick Steves Tour of smaller towns. 

Montenegro: Kotor, Perast, Budva, etc. 

Scotland: From the “Lowlands” of Glasgow and Edinburgh to the “Highlands” of Glencoe, Fort William, Oban, and Portree on the Isle of Skye, we were enthralled by the beauty of the land and the romantic history of the people. 

England: We “Did London” with our granddaughter, Bea, then Stratford on Avon, then Liverpool with Luci, Matt and Chris, , and then York on our own. 

Sweden: Staying in Kristianstad with Karin, mother of our son-in-law, Benny, we enjoyed time with family and visits to some towns in southern Sweden. 

Denmark: Our first long stay in Copenhagen was just great. We visited again with our Camino friend Senne, her husband and son.  

Romania:  In Transylvania: Cluj-Napoca, Sighisoara, Sibiu, Brasov, Sinaia, and then south to Bucharest.

Hungary: Budapest

Poland:  Krakow, the former capital of Poland, was beautiful and fascinating. We learned about Polish history and visited the notorious death camps at Auschwitz-Birkenau. 

Czech Republic: From Day #1 we, along with our travel buddies Emily & Van, just fell in love with Prague. Plus a day trip to Kutna Hora

Cambodia: An OAT 5-Day Extension tour took us to Siem Reap, our home base for visits to Tonle Sap Lake, to Angkor Wat and to other Khmer temples in the area. 

Viet Nam: Our fantastic tour with Overseas Adventure Tours (OAT) took us to Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hue, Nga Trang, Hoi An, Dalat, Saigon/Ho Chi Min City and the Mekong Delta.  

Thailand 2023:  A great visit with Les, our friend of many years, and his delightful partner Gina. We visited Bangkok. Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Krabi.

  — 2022 —

8 Months at Home in New Jersey and Elsewhere: Our time back in the good old USA. 

Spain again, 2022: With our lifelong friends Anne and John, we revisited Barcelona and then went to Andalucia to see Granada, Cordoba and Sevilla, with a quick stop in Madrid on our way back to the states. 

Greece, 2022:  We visited Athens and Delphi and then cruised to some Greek Islands including Rhodes, Crete, Santorini, Milos and Mykonos.  

Turkey, 2022: Our first “Rick Steves Tour” began in Istanbul and included Ankara, Cappadocia, Antalya, Kusadasi and Ephesus. We loved both Turkey and the tour.  

Cyprus, 2022: A brief visit to a lovely Greek island with a few days in Paphos, and an overnight in Larnaca that left us eager to return. 

Jordan, 2022: We visited Amman, Jerash, Mt. Nebo, the Dead Sea, the ancient city of Petra and the desert of Wadi Rum. 

Israel, 2022: We walked in the footsteps of Jesus on our pilgrimage to The Holy Land with Brian & Peri Zahnd. 

Spain, 2022: We visited Alicante with Emily and Van, took a brief side trip to London, and then returned to Valencia for the Las Fallas festival. 

Croatia, again, 2022:  Back to Zagreb for another month out of Schengen, then down to Zadar on the lovely Adriatic Coast. 

— 2021 —

Vienna, Austria 2021-22: Vienna is spectacular! We stayed through New Year,  enjoying classical music, museums, a Mozart Opera, and gorgeous Christmas Markets. 

Germany 2021Wonderful Christmas Markets in Cologne; a magical visit to Rothenburg ob der Tauber; back to Frankfurt while Austria is locked down; then off to Vienna for Christmas. 

Croatia 2021We visited the beautiful Istrian Peninsula, spent time in Rovinj, then two glorious days at Plitvice National Park, then down to Split and back up to Zagreb. We learned to really love the Croatian coastline and the great capital city, Zagreb

Spain 2021 : The Portuguese Camino includes Spain from Tui to Santiago. From there, we go east to Vitoria/Gasteiz, and then visited Rick & Julie in Bilbao 

Portugal 2021: A few days in Porto, and a week in the Douro Valley with Emily & Van and their family.  A few days in Braga, and then we walked the Portuguese Camino from Porto to Santiago

Ireland 2021: We spent a few weeks in Dublin, a few days in Galway, and we walked the Dingle Way. A great trip, even though the music in pubs was shut down due to Covid.

           Back in the USA from March 2020 until August 10, 2021

— 2020 —

Bulgaria 2020:  We spent time in Sophia, the capital, visited the Rila Monastery,  and then Plovdiv, which closed down for the Covid Pandemic the day we arrived.  

Serbia 2020: Belgrade, the capital of Serbia and the former Yugoslavia. National Ballet, the Danube, Zemun, and the Museum of Yugoslavia.  

Boznia-Herzogovina 2020: After leaving Dubrovnik, we made our way to Mostar and then to Sarajevo

Croatia 2020: We enjoyed Zagreb, and a day trip to the beautiful Plitvice National Park, then flew down to Dubrovnik along the Adriatic Sea. 

Slovenia 2020: We fell in love with Ljubljiana, toured the gorgeous Lake Bled, visited the Skocjan Caves and the coastal city of Piran

Barcelona 2020: We loved Gaudi’s architecture, attended a guitar concert, a Flamenco performance, and we watched Barcelona Football (we call it soccer). 

— 2019 —

Germany 2019: Great Christmas markets in Wurzburg, Nurnberg, & Munich. A daytrip to Linderhof, Oberammergau, and Neuschwanstein.  

England 2019:  With Littlebury Green as home base:  Rottingdean, Saphron-Walden, London, Ely, Warwick, and Stratford-on-Avon

Portugal 2019+: Post Camino we visited friends in Braga, and a trip to Porto. In January 2020 we met them again in Lisbon

The Camino Frances: 2019: We began our retirement adventures by walking about 500 miles on a pilgrimage across northern Spain to Santiago
